Document Review and Construction Observation
When The George Washington University erected a new mixed-use academic and residential building at 1957 E Street NW, they contacted Hoffmann Architects + Engineers to, in their words, “avail ourselves of your [Hoffmann’s] distilled wisdom and ability to address causes before they become symptoms.” The University retained Hoffmann as building enclosure consultants to critique design details and provide expert advice on waterproofing, building intersections, and flashings at roofs, curtain walls, and windows.
During construction site visits, our architects and engineers participated in construction progress meetings and observed construction, summarizing our findings in field reports and meeting minutes. We also reviewed contractors’ submittals, such as shop drawings, product data, and samples to establish conformance with the design concept.
As the facility manager at The George Washington University explained, “We have a good opportunity here to adjust some details and avoid later misery.” Hoffmann’s design team made those corrections possible.
