Boston Facade Inspection
In 1995, the City of Boston passed an ordinance amending Municipal Code section 9-9.12 to mandate periodic exterior wall inspection. The most recent updates were enacted in 2022.
Occupied buildings over seventy feet tall, or those classified as “high-rise,” must undergo inspection of all building faces every five years. Unoccupied buildings over 35,000 sf must be evaluated annually.
