Hoffmann Architects + Engineers Promotes Melissa Melone to Staff Architect

Melone earns licensure as Registered Architect in New York

New York — 10 May 2024 — Hoffmann Architects + Engineers, a design firm specializing in the rehabilitation of building exteriors, announces that Melissa R. Melone, AIA, part of the firm’s New York City team, has been promoted to Staff Architect.

Melissa Melone joined Hoffmann Architects + Engineers as Project Representative in 2021, after graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Known for her eagerness to learn, upbeat enthusiasm, and dependability, she was recognized for advancing technical skill and leadership initiative with promotions in 2022 to Senior Project Representative, in 2023 to Project Coordinator, now to Staff Architect.

Project Accomplishments

Melone has provided investigation, design, and construction administration services for over 25 projects at more than 35 buildings and sites across the greater New York City area, with clients in the corporate, educational, healthcare, and multi-family residential sectors. An integral member of the team for many New York City Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP) projects, she also has experience with curtainwall replacement, storefront and facade rehabilitation, and reroofing.

Melone’s project contributions include administering construction for the facade replacement at 489 Fifth Avenue, an office tower in midtown Manhattan designed in the 1970s by Kahn & Jacobs. She has also been instrumental in the curtain wall replacement project at the midcentury modern Stony Brook University Medical Center patient towers and sky bridge, designed in 1965 by Bertrand Goldberg.

Other project work includes FISP investigations and repairs at 265 East 66th Street, a 47-story curved black glass rental tower in Lenox Hill, and at 730 Third Avenue, a LEED Gold certified office building, as well as at Columbia University’s Philosophy Hall, a National Historic Landmark designed by McKim, Mead & White. Melone’s experience spans from historic to modern, with a broad range of materials, construction types, building footprints, and usage profiles.

Service to the Industry

Dedicated to the advancement of not only her own professional development, but also that of her colleagues, Melone serves on both the Hoffmann Technical Training Committee and the Emerging Professionals Group. She collaborates with team members from across Hoffmann’s three offices to implement continuing education and mentoring initiatives, as well as provide study resources for those seeking licensure. Melone also serves as Safety Coordinator for Hoffmann’s New York office.

With a commitment to equity in the architecture field, Melone is a member of the Hoffmann Diversity & Inclusion Committee and serves as a mentor in the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program of Greater New York, a rigorous afterschool program for high school students. An alumna of ACE herself, she values the importance of engaged role models in forging a path for those hoping to enter the design professions.

Melissa Melone is a Registered Architect (RA) in the State of New York and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the AIA New York Women in Architecture Committee.
