Edison Zhang

Project Coordinator

With advanced degrees in both engineering and architecture, Edison brings specialized knowledge of building enclosure materials and systems to his projects with Hoffmann. He began his studies at the University of Auckland, in New Zealand, where he completed both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. After graduation, he worked for several years in the engineering field, gaining experience in seismic building evaluations and structural design, as well as the preparation of construction documents and project manuals.

Eager to explore the intersection of engineering and architecture, Edison moved to the U.S. to attend the graduate architecture program at Pratt Institute in New York. While earning his Master of Architecture degree, he interned with the team responsible for the terminal expansion project at JFK International Airport, performing structural calculations for the facade design. Once he’d completed his education, Edison worked as a building envelope inspector in New York City, which brought him familiarity with a broad range of building materials and construction types. He also gained in-depth experience with the compliance requirements for codes and local laws, including the New York City Facade Inspection and Safety Program (FISP). With many competing responsibilities, Edison became adept at managing tight deadlines while overseeing quality assurance to deliver projects efficiently and to the highest standards.

As part of Hoffmann’s Connecticut team, Edison applies his project management skills and his knowledge of building enclosure assemblies to developing solutions for challenging rehabilitation projects. His international experience and advanced studies afford him a fresh perspective on exterior enclosure design, while his training as both an engineer and an architect allows him to approach projects with an analytical eye that’s also attuned to aesthetics.

Outside the workplace, Edison enjoys playing basketball and cooking a variety of cuisines. Fluent in Mandarin, he is an avid traveler and has visited countries around the globe.
