One of the first employees of the firm, Russ is responsible for the attention to detail that characterizes Hoffmann projects. Under his direction, the technical staff deliver projects completed to rigorous standards. Over his career of nearly five decades, Russ has earned a reputation in the design and construction industry not only for building enclosure expertise but also for forensic investigation and shrewd evaluation of distress and failure. Often called upon as an expert witness for litigation and mediation, he also provides consultation for insurance claims in the wake of natural disasters and other catastrophic building failures.

To maintain consistency, accuracy, and thoroughness in all construction documents produced by the firm, Russ takes the time to advise junior staff on everything from design details to graphic standards, painstakingly reviewing drawing sets and specifications in consultation with office directors. His exacting methods and reliability have secured close relationships with clients across industries, with many turning to Russ for decades seeking his reliable counsel.

In his role as senior advisor and past president of Hoffmann, Russ offers his experience and wisdom to the incoming leadership team. He will continue to serve in an advisory capacity, as well as in consultation for projects and technical matters, until his planned retirement in August 2025.

Russ earned his architecture degree from the Ohio State University and has been with Hoffmann since his graduation. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Association for Preservation Technology (APT), and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Russ is also a founding member of the Hoffmann Diversity and Inclusion Committee and has been active in the firm’s company culture initiatives, from Habitat for Humanity build days to the Hoffmann Book and Film Club. With his steadfast support, Hoffmann received awards from AIA Connecticut and the Construction Institute for promoting positive workplace culture.
